ADVENTURE ON LARUT HILL

SYNOPSIS

      This story began when Uncle Henry had to attends an important business meeting regarding his millions project of built a luxurious bungalows with his partners while his wife gone to KL.So,Uncle Henry has to send his only son,Georgie stayed together with his brother's children,Lyn and Kenny so that they can keep an eye on Georgie.Uncle Henry has already planned a trip to Taiping Zoo for his son,Georgie together with his cousins,Lyn and Kenny.But Lyn and Kenny hated their cousins.His parents had spoilt him since he was small because he was their only son and he had growned up to be fat and lazy and very rude also hates animals.He also will makes things miserable for everyone when he gets bored.They wouldn't mind going to the zoo with Georgie,as long as they could take their friends,Mimi and Zul too.
       So,on that morning trip,Uncle Henry drove the children to the Taiping Zoo by his large tomato-red Mercedes.When they arrived there,Uncle Henry has asked Zul to take care of everyone as he is the oldest.They had an enjoyable time inside the zoo except Georgie that really spoiled the whole trip because he doesn't likes animals at all.Before they finished their trip in that zoo,Georgie went to the gift shop,bought some souvenirs for his mother.The children suggested some of the souvenirs that would suitable for his mothers,but nothing they suggested pleased Georgie.At last the children wandered out of the shop and feed the monkeys.After a few minutes they wondered that Georgie has gone.
        All of them started to find Georgie.Zul felt worried because Georgie's father had put him in charge of his son and if they couldn't find Georgie,he would be in big trouble.They asked the ticket officer whether he has saw Georgie went out from the zoo and the man told that he saw Georgie left the zoo.Suddenly Mimi began to smiled and told the others that maybe Georgie went up to the fun-fair on Larut Hill because she remembered he heard Georgie talks about fun-fair when they were looking at the tigers.
        The journey to find Georgie up to Larut Hill began and must go by jeep.They went out from the jeep and started walking as fast as they could go.Suddenly Kenny heard a faint voice "help".So they followed the direction Kenny had heard the voice.Unfortunately,it wasn't Georgie but it was a Scottish man Sandy that has sprained his ankle.
         Things become worse when suddenly there was a bright flash of lightning and a loud crash of thunder.A large black cloud has covered the sky and cold wind began to blow.A moment after that,rain began to poured down and started flooded all over the places.All of them included Sandy tried to looked out for shelter.Zul and Kenny tried to get helped from the workers cut up the huge branch that had lying across the road.The workers tried to called up the Emergency Rescue Service but didn't got because there's too much static electricity caused by the storm.At last,the workers themselves helped the children and also Sandy get  out from the affected area.
          Georgie was actually went back to his father's business meeting place that was in the Golden Willow Restaurant by itself because he get bored in the zoo and he didn't like his cousins as well as his cousin's friends.His father was shocked as he saw Georgie entered the meeting room.His father was scolded him and at the moment Georgie get scolded from his father,Kenny,Lyn,Zul,Mimi and also Sandy entered the room.All of them was shocked to saw Georgie was there.The children told from the very beginning until the end.Uncle Henry apologize the children and also sandy on behalf of his son and warned Georgie behave himself,respect the others,and also mind his words.

LESSON/MORAL VALUES

1-Always respect the others especially who are older than us.
2-Always help each others whether we know that person or not without hopes for the rewards.
3-Don;t being a selfish.
4-Preserve and conserve our nature and rainforest.
5-Maintains a good relationships with the other of the family members.
6-We should be thankful to God on what we have right now.


COMMENTS

       My comments about this story are,it is a well-organised and straight  forward story from the very beginning until the end of the story that readers can understands straight forward without have to thinking very hardly.The author,Jean Adnan portray Larut Hill and Taiping Zoo as the background place where this story is creates.The author use a simple words in this story and it is very suitable for a new readers and also a new learners on english languages.This story also give attentions on nature while the story at the Larut Hill.For example,Sandy,the Scottish man that has sprained his ankle is a nature lover knows better about the nature especially the types of birds.I also has learn new things from this story for example,if a tree trunk is cut across,we can see circles inside the trunk.Each ring means a year of the tree's life.So we just have to count how many circles there are and that tells us how old the tree was.So,as the conclusion,"Adventure On Larut Hill"is a very adventurous story,very interesting and the most important things is,I really enjoy reading this book.

Billy Budd and The Encantadas

synopsis

The merchant sailor,Billy Budd,is inspected and enlisted for naval service on the Bellipotent.Although his civillian captain is not happy to see him go,he has to release him to the navy.Billy is a wonderful sailor.All the sailors like him for his charming looks and honest simple pesonality.He waves good-bye to his shipmates as he is taken aboard his new ship.
Billy does well in his new surroundings.The other sailors like him as much as he was liked on the merchant vessel.He works in the topsails and makes fast friends with companions and a veteran sailor,referred to as the Dansker.
The captain of the ship is Fairfax Vere.Captain Vere is a very stern man.He is well-read and educated and he speaks often in historical allusions.Many find him to be less than personable and he is not popular with the sailors,although he is respected.
There is a new master-at-arms on the ship and his name is John Claggart.The job of the master-at-arms has turned into policing his own crew.He is primarily responsible for watching over the men.In recent months there have been mutinies on British ships,so the officers are ill-at-ease.Claggart's job is more difficult as a result of this.
One of the corporals tell Claggart that Billy Budd was ridiculing him.Claggart takes offense at this lie and begins to watch Billy carefully,counterfeiting pleasant hellos.When Billy finds out from the veteran sailor that Claggarts doesn't like him,he doesn't believe it.
After the pursuit of an enemy ship,Claggart goes to Captain Vere and tells him that he thinks one of the men is dangerous,liable to mutiny.When he tells him that he means Billy Bud,the captain doesn't believe him.He takes Billy and Claggart into a room and makes Claggart accuse Billy to his face.Billy is stunned by the accusation and when pressured to talk,he punches Claggart in the forehead.This punch hit just right and kills the master-at-arms.
Captain Vere is  at first confused,but he calls a court of other officers to review the crime and set a sentence.Although some of them feel that Billy unintionally commited a crime,Captain Vere maintains that on a warship a murder is a murder regardless of intention.They convict Billy and sentence him to hang at down.
At dawn,all the men assemble and Billy is hung by the main mast.the sunrises on his body framed by the mast and the yardarm.Some men think that he seemed to die before the noose tightened.Although an official report stated that Billy stabbed Claggart after he was rightly accused,the truth of his excution lived on in a ballad sung by sailors all over the world.

-Billy does not struggle with the noval officer enlisting him,because this is his duty,Althought he might not want to go into the navy,he goes anyway and he tries to do well once he gets there.
2)Captain Vere is an intellectual;he is also mistaken for a gentleman
-His ideas of morality and right and wrong are heavily.
 
Comment
I found that this novel is very tragedic and quite interesting to be read among english novels reader.It is because the novel,as superb tragedy must,ends on a calm and satisfying note.The tragic hero is a superior being whose martyrdom elevates him even further.He is not perfect;he possesses the flaw which contributes to his fate.(At times of intense emotion,he is unable to speak;therefore,he retorts to Claggartwith his fist.)The Encantadas,or Enchanted Isles,a book of ten sketches-all laid in the lonely Galapagos Islands off the coast of Eucador-represents Herman Merville at his highest point of achievement as a writer.First published in The Piazza Tales,each sketch is a gem by itself.Compassion and wit mingle with anger as Melville presents his two major themes-the power of evil and man in isolation.

WUTHERING HEIGHTS

SYNOPSIS

This story is about of Mr Earshawn's family.They live at Wuthering Heights. Mr Earshawn has a son, Hindley and  a daughter, Catherine. Their live is always happiness but not longer since their father brought an adopt to their house. They decided to call it Heatcliff. Hindley hate him very much. He never get a good attendance from Hindley.After they have grow up, their parents are dead. Hindley had change a lot. He made the boy with the servant and set him to work on the farm instead. Furthermore, Catherine and Heatcliff had the feeling each other but Catherine don't want to married him because it would shame her if marry Heatcliff because his life is bad now. So, she has married with Edgar Linton.

COMMENT :

This story is full of sad because at the and everyone around the main character has dead. In addition, many of problem accrue because of misunderstanding. We have to be together if one of our family had problems.Don't leave them alone because it will make us far from each other and try to understand them. Furthermore, love is blind even Catherine already married with Edgar Linton but she still love Heatcliff. Actually, we don't have to be shy if someone we love comes from poor family.This book are not bored because one side is story and one side is picture.

STEP BY WICKED STEP

This story is about family life where it tell about six young children who had different background family. Its start with Richard story. His life begins soon after His father died, his mother married Mr Coldstone Richard's stepfather was kind to his sister, Charlotte, but treated Richard cruelly and send him to Mordanger school. Richard was so unhappy that he ran away to sea and did not return for many years. When he finally returned to old Hardwick Hall, he discovered that his mother, stepfather and sister had all died. Devastated, the now wealthy Richard was left to decide weather to stay, or leave home and disappear forever.

Next is Claudia story. Her parents quarrelled a lot and so they split up. When Claudia's dad moved in with his new girlfriend, Stella, Claudia was rude and ignored her out of loyalty towards her mother. However, when she saw her dad's friends treating Stella in a similar manner, she realised that it was unfair and she subsequently changed her attitude towards Stella.

Follow by Colin story. Colin's Mum took up with Jack when Colin was a baby. Colin called him 'Dad', and they were very close. His mum decided to leave Jack and they moved away to another place. Colin was very upset and missed his stepdad. He started getting into trouble at school. He planned to run away and find his stepdad when he was older.

Ralph's  is the next person tell about his family, He had a complicated family life. His first stepmother, Annabel, was unpopular because she never left him and his two brother alone with their dad. Ralph's second stepmother, Janet was so well-organised that both his parents loved her. Ralph and his brother, however, hated her because of all ruler she imposed. Ralph also dislike sharing his house with Janet four children. Ralph adore Flora, his dad's new pregnant girlfriend. He hopped Flora would stay on as his stepmother.

Next is Pixie story. Pixie dad lived with his new wife, Lucy and her daughter's Hetty and Sophie. When Hetty moved into pixie's room, Pixie tried to get rid of her by first telling her ghost stories and later giving her semi silence treatment. Lucy and pixie had a huge row but eventually they cleared up all their misunderstanding. From then on, everyone got alone better.




Lastly is Robbo story. Robbo and his sister, Callie, lived with their mum, Roy and Dumpa, their young half-brother. Robbo got along quite well with Roy but Callie hated Roy. She did whatever she could to cause problems between roy and her mum in the hope that her mum and dad get back together. Eventually Callie moved in with her dad as evryone realised that she could never live happly with roy.

COMMENT :

This is a form five novel. This novel is quite interesting and give a lot of knowledge. We are not same like other person, don't judge people in mordanger school are bad person, some of them, they have to go there because of their life, family background. As a mother or a father, we have to settle the problem and think about children. They can be the victim of the environment. If the father or a mother want to find a new wife or husband, make sure that they are good enough to take care of your children and can get along with them. some of children don't even know what happen to their surrounding.


When reading this book, you can image what actually happen to them, you can put yourself there and fell what they feel. Maybe when you start reading this book, you will find that you are the lucky persons because you have a great family that give support to you. You can follow this story very well and the usage of words is simple and can be understand. 

Behind The Green Glass

Synopsis

Sarah and Philip are fall in love. But both of they didn't know because they keep it to they self. Sarah's mother ask her sister named Enid to marry with Philip.Even though, Enid and Philip didn't love each other. Sarah can't marry with Philip because she is too young and her family doesn't know that they are in love.

Sarah's mother plan to get her sister and Philip married because she already though Philip like her son. Philip is a soldier. Before he get marry with Enid, he had to go to the war. He invite Enid and Sarah to his house. But Enid didn't like Sarah to join them because Philip are to focus on Sarah. So Philip ask Enid to let them go for a walk before they get more argue. Philip ask Sarah to accompany him to the Green House. Both of them walk in silence because Sarah afraid to open her mouth.

Then, they go inside the Green House and suddenly Philip express his feeling for Sarah. He tell Sarah that he can't marry with Enid. Sarah was so surprise. Now she know that not only she fell that felling.

But its too late. Philip was so regret with his decision to get marry with Enid. They plan after he get back from the war, they will tell everybody the truth about they feeling. But Enid and Philip didn't get marry. Enid receive a telegram that tells Philip was dead. Sarah was so sad. 

After a year, while Sarah and her sister walks to the Temperate House. They saw the same old lady that they saw last August. She wearing the same black dress. The old lady remember that she had saw Sarah before this at the Green House. It recall her because of Sarah's hat that she wear on that day. The old lady said that she though that she might see a ghost that day because Sarah look the same like her when shes young. The old lady like to go to the Green House. Sarah was afraid that the old lady might see what she and Philip doing in the Green House. So, she ask a permission to go to her sister back. When Sarah turn around to see the old lady, the old lady was missing. There no signs of her at all. Then Sarah realize that the old lady was her. Because Sarah also like to go to the Green House when she miss Philip.The old lady remind Sarah of her in future.

Come back with love story, this week we want to share with you one more love book that give inspire.This novel actually had many love stories. New chapter, new love story. we choose this title to share with you because This novel is not really hard to understand because it use simple English language. This story is the most teenage girl like us love to read because it about love. It was a fun novel. Sarah and Philip had a true love. The ending of the story was sad because Sarah and Philip didn't get together. Philip making decision easily about marring Enid without thinking about his own heart. You may read more love story in this book, maybe in one week you can read at lease two story in this book. Then can improve our language. You also can follow every story and enjoy it Because of this book are using simple English, so this week we don't have new words that we want to share. I suggest you to grab this book on Bukharin Library and read it on your own, i guarantee that you will enjoy it so much :)

THE SPYING GAMES

SYNOPSIS :

   Joe,a 13 year's old boy begins a plan of persecution against a man he called Mr Longleat Man (L.M) or Mr.Terence Moss who has killed his father,Mr Peter Harris in a road accident.Even though Norwich Crown Court has decide that Joe's father died shortly after his arrival at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital because sustained serious injuries from a collision with a telegraph pole,Joe still felt that L.M was a killer of his father.

    Joe starts his spying games in a way becomes a paper boy that he must delivering a newspaper including Abigail Road where L.M and his family stay.Every morning,when he reach L.M's house,he will jot down everything that he saw and heard.He also wrote a threaten words such as "THIS CAR KILLS" over the bonnet using a permanent marker,and post a box of Dairy Milk chocolates with a label saying "I'M STILL WATCHING".

    On one day at his school during P.E lesson,his teachers are going to call out the names for their tutor groups  and at last he heard his name was called group with Alex Moss.He is a L.M's only son.

     Lastly,Joe face one another with Alex Moss to tell the truth about the accident that has killed his father.At last Joe accept that his father was died in order to swerve to avoid a motorbike and L.M truly was found not guilty in this case.

                 ...cheeses,pies,bread,coffee and there's a certain spot where it all mingles together.

7-lunatic : someone who behaves in a crazy or very stupid way.

                ...my father was killed by a lunatic who should be locked away...(Page 15 Lined 35)

8-whizz : to move very quickly,often making a sound like something rushing through the air.

               ...and me would whizz round to the drive-in on the ring road.

9-waddling : to walk with short steps,with your body moving from one side to another-used especially about people or birds with fat bodies and short legs.

                    A couple of ducks are waddling over to me.

10-culprit : the person who is guilty of a crime or doing something wrong.

                  ...looking around as if the culprit is hiding under the hedge or something.

COMMENTS

    This week, we read about a boy who did not satisfied about his father dead. It such an interesting story where the story is set in Norwich,England. You can imagine yourself at there when you read this book, it describe about the place. The author,Pat Moon likes to use a flash back scene for example the story flashes back to Joe remembers when he and his fathers together went to McDonald's while his father is still alive.The languages and the words that the author use in this book also is a very simple and very easy to understands. We also find a lots of new words that we want to share with you, check our NEW WORDS list. This book is better than last week, we want to know what happen next , sometimes it become suspend and excited for it. At the end of the story, it quite fun because Mrs Longleat man has became his tutor and he have to accept what happen. 

Although we love our father, but we have to try accept if he no longer exist. Everyone will die, but we don't know when, don;t blame people about what happen. This is the moral value that we want to share with you :

Davie parents has passed away.They was leave their son,Davie a letter.In that letter,his father start him off to the house of Shaw's,not far from Cramond,the place that his boy should return.Davie take a decision to go to the place with Alan.At last,Davie has meet the lawyer,Mr Thomson.The lawyer has advised him to choose the safe and shameful.The lawyer has give him two letters.After that,Davie and Alan are leaving each other.Davie take a decision to go to British Linen Company's Bank.

Comment:-


This is second novel that we'll read, its quite bord because the flow of the story is very hard to understand. However, it contain some moral value that we can obtain when we read this novel.One of the moral value is the show of loving between a father and his son, the father still remember his son although the son never look after him.
    

LOVE LETTERS : PERFECT STRANGERS

can you LOVE someone you don't even know ?

Synopsis :

   Madison's is a roll model for her school. Her parents and teacher always expect her to make A's. The heart-2-heart pal program was one of those big ideas that the Evergreen High Counselors had invented to help students survive their high school years. And so Madison's school pen pal assignment begins. Each student was give an anonymous e-mail address and assigned a heart-2-heart partner. Student were suppose to communicate with their partners.

 At the same time, her school would nominated the candidates for student president and she has going to be one of them.She's busy running for school election and is up against Jeremy, her sworn enemy since forever. 

   Although she was having trouble concentration with her heart-2-heart pal, but soon Madison's finds herself pulling aside more and more time to email her anonymous pen pal, who calls himself blue. As the election rapidly heats up, so do the messages, until the two are virtually an item, and they've never even met of this assignment is, they not supposed to meet them, they only supposed to write them. One day, blue's ask Madison a date. Madison is to excited and accept it, they break the rules and meet in person.

   At the day they meet, Madison was really surprise to see her heart-2-heart pal, it was Jeremy, her worst enemy. Madison made a snap decision. She slowly made her way up of there. Jeremy was really disappointed about what happen, his pal didn't come for their first date, and he don't even know Madison was his pal.

After a month, finally, Madison tell Jeremy the truth that she was his pal. At the end of the story, Jeremy and Madison fall in love and they are Evergreen Presidents.

My Opinion :


This is our first time reading English book, it was quite hard to really understand every new words that we find. We have to refers dictionary so that we can follow the story. We learn new words every chapter and we want to share with you some of it, refer our ''NEW WORDS'' .


This book is about love story and as a teenage, it was enjoyful reading this book. Even we don't understand some words, but this book are using simple English and it help a lots. It was fun to have a pen pal like Madison's, where we can share everything with them as they don't even know us. Its motivate us to be like Madison, where she is a roll model for her school, cleaver girl, having desirable qualities. She wake up every morning to study and she won't sleep before she get the answer for the question. As a Muslim, Rasulullah had teach us to wake up before the sun rise.


Morality of this story is :


i)   we have to work hard to achieve something that we want.
ii) "Don't judge the book with its cover", which mean, we have to be friend with someone we assume as our enemy, because there is no reasons to hate them if they didn't do anything wrong to us.
iii) Always ask people opinion especially our friends and family before doing something
iv) Plan everything before start something, so that it won't waste our time.
